Guerilla

Red Faction: Guerilla has taken this years E3 event by storm and has widely been identified as the events hottest title! Unlike most games at the event though, Red Faction: Guerilla is with us already and is also ripping up the sales charts. Should you believe the hype?

Back in April this year we took a first look at Red Faction: Guerilla and the game appeared full of potential and looked set to become a groundbreaking game, much like Red Faction was before it - with all things taken into account this has not happened, but there is plenty about the game to give some of you ammunition to argue against that.

The foundations of the plot behind Red Faction: Guerilla appeared a strong one at face value, but the execution of it has not met the standard which most of us were expecting and instead the storyline only serves to kick up some slightly repetitive experiences after an hour or so of playing. However, we beg that you are not put of by that - as Red Faction: Guerilla, beyond that minor flaw, is absolutely awesome in almost every other sense.

Guerilla

The original Red Faction title was famed for the level of destruction you could inflict on not just your enemies, but also the environment around you in it’s entirity - and this feature is back with a vengeance in Red Faction: Guerilla. The mars based land you find yourself inhabiting has been created to an incredible level of detail, even when compared to some of today’s great titles such as Assassins Creed - and practially every single inch of it is completely destructible… the ground, the walls, even the buildings.

If you love blowing things up or bringing things down, Red Faction: Guerilla is quite simply a must own title as there is no better example of a game like this, anywhere. You have an array of powerful weapons at your disposal, but perhaps the most satisfying is the simple, everyday sledge-hammer. Armed with it you can bring an entire building to it’s knees, assuming you use it properly that is!

Destruction aside, the multiplayer modes offer some great online play-time and you will probably find yourself playing the online game modes this time next year and possibly beyond. The single player campaign though, despite being repetitive in parts as mentioned above, is long and in-depth and will give you more game time than most new games released nowadays.

Topping off the graphical genius, the awesome destructible environments and the engrossing campaign are the sound effects which possibly set another standard for future titles to aim for. You will truly believe you are right there on Mars fighting as the rogue militant leader Alec Mason - you feel the ground shake around you as attacks land close by without moving a muscle, the feeling has not been felt in a video game before to our knowledge!

Red Faction: Guerilla is a must buy title for any true gamer of relevant age. It’s fast, it’s frantic, it’s action packed and the game comes alive and sucks you in thanks to the glorious destruction and sound effects. Buy it now!
